... is a traditional fishing village still retaining a sense of 'Old Crete'. Local people are ultra-friendly and generous to a fault. They go out of their way to ensure you enjoy their endless hospitality, so don't forget to say Yas Sas (hello/goodbye), it will be appreciated.
FOOD & DRINK: The village has 10+ excellent tavernas where you can choose fresh fish, local specialities or international cuisine (we recommend you try all tavernas!). Don't forget to try the RAKI! (local 'firewater') to the toast of Yammas!. After a meal drop in to either of the 2 welcoming bars for a 'nightcap'.
SHOPPING:There are two well-stocked 'supermarkets' and a Bakery where you can get fresh bread, milk & a variety of provisions or call in to either of the 2 small gift shops for those extra special presents!
THE HARBOUR still porovides work for local fishermen who deliver freshly caught fish daily, which are then cooked to perfection in any of the tavernas along the seafront (pick your own from the kitchen!).
BEACHES: There is a small man-made beach at the harbour and extensive pebble beaches stretching both east and west of the village square. Here you can swim in cool, clean blue waters. You will find other nice beaches in Sissi, near the Archaeological site in Malia and further afield at Agios Nikalaos or Istron.
WALKING: There are plenty of easy local coastal and shorter 'mountain' walks. Milatos is surrounded by mountains and can provide more challenging walks for the 'fit'. You can also take a coastal walk to Sissi (about 1 hour away).
